London Cycle Diaries: Stamford Hill's Orthodox Jews

London Cycle Diaries is both a cycle-based and cycle-orientated series aimed at "discovering" hidden spots in London from the saddle of my Raleigh.

  1. Hi Mario - I hadn't realised the Haredi community was so close knit ... and it's lovely to hear your voice telling us the story and then Clifford Dyment's sad poem about the letter written by his father ... we are being reminded of those days of War ... cheers Hilary

  5. You have come up with a novel method for producing posts, CiL, and you manage to find interesting topics to feature within them. I enjoy them, and I hope you will continue to utilize this technique far into the future.

  11. I enjoy your voice-blogs. There are a number of such communities in the US and I lived near one when I was in Pittsburgh.

  15. I enjoyed this embrace of London diversity, especially in the face of the recent tragic attack. One can't think of British Jews without remember 1290 when the king expelled all Jews. They weren't allowed back for centuries. It's easier to be a Hasidic Jewish man than a woman - the women shave their heads and wear wigs and must sit in the balcony in temple with the kids.
