I hope I have camped up your Sunday morning a bit more ;-) and please, maximise the screen, the better to appreciate those two beautiful front teeth. The quality of the clip is awful and that watermark is intrusive but have heartbreak songs ever felt this good? Many thanks. Enjoy.

Many thanks for your kind comments. This is one of those songs that defy labels. Ensconced away at the end of an album whose Killer Opening Song (or should that read 'Songs') are 'We Will Rock You' and 'We Are The Champions', 'My Melancholy Blues' is the epitome of everything that made Queen one of the better rock bands in the world. Whilst the record 'News of the World' was released amidst fears that Freddie, Brian, Roger and John had somehow lost it because of the threat from punk (1977, remember?), the truth is that this is one of the rockiest albums ever made. 'Sheer Heart Attack', 'Fight From the Inside' and 'Get Down, Make Love'. It doesn't get any more rock'n'roll than that. And yet you have at the same time the subtleties of 'Spread Your Wings', 'Sleeping on the Sidewalk' and 'Who Needs You' (including the 'maracas'/rattles). This is gem of an album and the coda, 'My Melancholy Blues' is a beauty itself. Many thanks.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
Just arrived to Chad... exhausted and tired. It was good to indulge myself with your song though! It is beautiful, and makes me feel relaxed, and at peace...
ReplyDeleteGreetings from N'Djamena
Hoy mismo le decía a Maylin, cuanto le debo a este tipo, esencialmente un artista y luego, todo lo demás.
ReplyDeletenos pillamos, tony.
Queen rocks
ReplyDeleteand individuality is a very good place to start
How can you not adore Freddie Mercury? I've always been a Queen fan and this did indeed stir up my Sunday!
ReplyDeleteFreddie the child prodigy, it almost seems ....
ReplyDeleteIt makes me laugh to see how young Freddie looks, CiL. I fully agree with you that Queen's talent and willingness to perform "unexpected" songs raises the group to a higher level of maturity and merit on the rock & roll scale.
Long live the Queen ....
Nothing like Queen to get a bit of nostalgia going on a Sunday afternoon.. Queen was one of the first concerts I ever went to with my mates at Wembley 1974 - the sight of Freddie in red lurex shorts is a sight you never forget!! Thanks for reminding me!!
ReplyDeletegreetings from Mexico
He was a great talent with an amazing voice! I wish more people appreciated him for his singing ability instead of judging him on his "looks."
ReplyDeleteThanks for the journey down memory lane:)
Greetings from New York.
Mercury was amazing, wasn't he? Thank you for refreshing our memories.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could play the piano like that. Fun trip back in time. Thanks. :^)
ReplyDeleteI am lost with Queen..Lord help me, I am an old gal, more tuned to Elevator Music..
ReplyDeleteWas a fun visit and enjoyed the music. Have to admit, I have an open mind..ha, ha..
Only the good die young!
ReplyDeleteAnd you got some old tyrants still hanging to power.
Saludos,
Al Godar
Only one Freddie in this universe..makes my heart leap, dance...is he still dead??
ReplyDeleteI Queen sono sempre i Queen. E Freddy era un grande cantante!!
ReplyDeleteAscolta questo song Cuban. Un altro genere, ma a me piace moltissimo. Penso che ti piacerá pure a te!

Many thanks to you all for your kind comments. It is, though, a day mixed with sadness as I found out earlier on today that one of my favourite poetes, the Uruguayan Mario Benedetti, died yesterday.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
i can appreciate his skills on the piano along with the passion. heartbreak will sure bring it out of ya. (well, that's been my experience anyway)
ReplyDeletenice song. thanks for sharing!
Anything by Queen... yes, this was good.
ReplyDeleteFreddie was unbelievable. I agree with Willow, I wish I could play piano like this.
ReplyDeleteThe quality of the picture isn't great, you're right, but hearbreak songs are very much my thing these days and this one made my Tuesday afternoon nicely smooth and melancholic. Thanks. Polly
Queen is a delight I typically take alone. I don't know why it's so hard to admit how much I love their music. It's a bright thread in the cosmic theatre that gives me so much joy.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for your kind comments. I was looking at another clip last night for my 'Song for a Winter Sunday Morning' section (yes, that's how far ahead I usually work on my blog, thanks! :-D) and even though I have been a fan since I was thirteen years old they never cease to amaze me.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
Oh, so fabulous... love the music, the voice, the lyrics! I'm swaying to the music. Thanks my Cuban friend! Ciao, Lizzy
ReplyDeleteMany thanks to you, Lizzy.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
Freddy Mercury was so fabulous! What an entertainer and so talented. Sadly, gone too soon...
ReplyDeleteYes, you're right, JAPRA, gone too soon. Butwe have the memories and the CDs :-). Many thanks for your comment.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
Lovely touch of nostalgia in the music.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Barbary, he could convey so many emotions with THAT VOICE :-).
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
