London Cycle Diaries (The Surrey Canal Path)

London Cycle Diaries is both a cycle-based and cycle-orientated series aimed at "discovering" hidden spots in London from the saddle of my Raleigh.

  4. I remember 'walking the canals' in my youth. Wondering now what happened to them all - if anything..

  5. I love canals - I walk by mine, with the red kites circling and Canada geese hissing if I pass too close to their chicks. Canal barges, full of holidaymakers now, chug up and down - always the men streering and women hauling themselves out to work the locks. This canal (the Kennet and Avon) is thriving again. I am walking the path once used to take wool from the Downs to the mills in Bristol. Oh the footsteps of history!

  6. Got a video too, getting high tech at your zoo haha Canals sure can be interesting. Been drained for quite a while, good wildlife can get use out of it too.

  7. Hi Mario - love hearing your voice describe your route and the life around your walk. It's interesting to the route and I'm sure other connections will link in to it in due course. Great for wildlife though ... cheers Hilary

  9. Absolutely gorgeous but more fascinating. It's weird to think that this idyllic park was actually underwater previously.

  13. I think I mentioned this before, but the book, "Three Men and a Boat and don't forget about the Dog" was a wonderful book about traveling on the canals in another era.

  14. I needed that verdant ride through soft air. Your woods make it visible.
And your voice, I've said it before - it's mesmerizing
