Maybe that's part of the reason we strike up conversations with strangers... it's a basic yearning to make connections.

You wonder about the "whitening" of the neighborhood in the movie? I think the Caucasian race has a tendency to be arrogant and ego-centric. How better to explain the colonization period, when white Europeans "discovered" and "claimed" other countries, in spite of the fact that those lands were already inhabited? And even had the audacity to run rough-shod over the inhabitants by giving those lands new names? Or that for so long, movie roles of native Americans, Asians and dark-skinned characters were played by white people? Maybe it wasn't just arrogance; maybe it was ignorance, too, but hopefully, things are getting better. Diversity makes life much more rich and interesting. It's about all the people who lived in a house where he used to rent a room. he knew them all. It's a documentary - the only thing, I believe, that is not true, is the fact that for the sake of the story he said the house would be demolished. It is not demolished - still there. I wonder who lives there now. Here is the film, I think it's wonderful. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p00rzvq2/a-house-in-bayswaterJenny Woolfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16881781466502273314noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-78326406481494708562016-03-18T09:14:24.880+00:002016-03-18T09:14:24.880+00:00the bike is now parked :)the bike is now parked :)NatureFootstephttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01340635075481959029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-57175615376654667322016-03-18T07:29:29.624+00:002016-03-18T07:29:29.624+00:00I love that shot! If you look at the map ... you can see the oval type shape in the Ladbroke Gardens layout. I remember the Carnival days - noisy!, full of people ... but I usually got up and went elsewhere ...

Cheers HilaryHilary Melton-Butcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17596532480645510678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-66670962332275972702016-03-17T10:12:09.761+00:002016-03-17T10:12:09.761+00:00Your descriptive posts are brilliant. I miss it. I can't imagine why a film producer would whiten up anyplace, but then again, look at this year's Oscar nominations. This is yet another reason why I prefer books to Hollywood, although books often have diversity issues too, a problem I discussed on my blog today too.Sarah Laurencehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00423008641739156182noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-17745258334994777242016-03-16T19:06:37.200+00:002016-03-16T19:06:37.200+00:00'Whitening up' history, places, people is ...'Whitening up' history, places, people is ALWAYS a mistake.Elephant's Childhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06650565833097914052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-65625382628581569112016-03-16T18:34:27.002+00:002016-03-16T18:34:27.002+00:00I haven't seen Notting Hill but from your post...I haven't seen Notting Hill but from your post I guess it doesn't reflect the ethnic makeup of the place.
