I support my current library through property taxes and visiting. But one of your commenters was right. I now use the library less and less. The internet has made possible so much that I used to only be able to get from my local library; hence, the diminished usage. I am not sure what the solution is in this digital age, but it is certainly an issue that is deserving of continued attention, which you have done with your post. Thank you for that. It certainly has made me think about this issue.Judith Mercadohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13739476600999112092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-25237201885748375102011-02-14T00:53:44.980+00:002011-02-14T00:53:44.980+00:00Let’s hear it for libraries, yeah! In the US, libraries survive with a mix of public funds and private donations.

I like your suggestions: mobile libraries are cool and sending books as a demonstration is fabulous. Love the Little Prince. I'm lucky in that it is part of the award winning Columbus Metropolitan Library system, but even they have recently lost funding and had to cut back on hours and employees.Tess Kincaidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04889725786678984293noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-88549388380338112272011-02-10T14:46:33.960+00:002011-02-10T14:46:33.960+00:00Yours are excellent ideas for taking action!

I then find ones I'd never even have known about otherwise. And the beauty is its all free to the user. Everyone can afford a library card!
It is beyond short-sighted of the current government to impose cuts on something that is integral to learning, self-development and an agent for social mobility. This, and tuition fees, feel astonishingly anti-enlightenment to me. There's an air of bread and circuses abroad on our streets.Titushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16380213493011623153noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-10780112797012014852011-02-10T04:29:18.870+00:002011-02-10T04:29:18.870+00:00Libraries have been under siege in the United Stat...Libraries have been under siege in the United States for years as well and right now they are particularly so. Most are closed here in Los Angeles for three days a week and when they do open, they are only open from 12:30 in the afternoon until early evening. It's terrible. I continue to support our library foundation and wonder if famous writers/intellectuals might do more as well. I like the idea of the silver revolution.
