I admire him with the upmost respect. I have observed his teachings in the classroom and he has a wonderful way with the kids. He refuses to sit behind his desk as he opts for siting on top of it when not standing and mingling amongst the kids. I personally believe that the days of text book memorizing should be out the door as the kids today seem to need more then text book learning....Skeeterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08222522533934405029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-17562498000839410222010-01-26T19:16:07.882+00:002010-01-26T19:16:07.882+00:00What a timely post! The whole point of the program is to engage students to analyze, become curious and question using anything from movies to art. I'm a third generation teacher and I know firsthand that it is a calling, not a profession to slip into when the economy sinks. Most people don't have the patience or even interest to figure out how to engage students. Six months? I doubt that they last that long in the field.Fly Girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18191335990973494972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-85492786032644672262010-01-26T16:36:30.484+00:002010-01-26T16:36:30.484+00:00Teachers who can teach and show their students HOW...Teachers who can teach and show their students HOW to think and not just how to memorize and regurgitate information are truly gems. I only heard...Thanks for your long comments, Cuban.
I only heard Russell Brand speak briefly on the Terri (or Terry) Gross show, a radio Public Broadcasting program and he was quite contrite about the deplorable quality of his antics, including something about bin Laden...and the book certainly explodes many of his antics, but it also does a lot for the force of being forced (you are supposed to go voluntarily) into rehab and the examination of reasons for addiction. If you are standing in a bookstore, you might read the beginning about going to the sex addiction clinic, a bit about his childhood and the end -- skip the middle because it would give you the miseries to read all the damage he's done...to himself, others and the media...
I don't know enough about your educational system to make a comment...and am probably not as engrossed in the issues of education...but I think there was some encouragement for people leaving the military or management to try their hands in the classroom. As you put it, at what point does the cynic come in. And, then again, at what point is there luck?
Who would have imagined that "Three Cups of Tea" would have done so much good? But, from what I've heard it did...what a long shot...
many thanks,melissashookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02398008713376655570noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-32908190449969974932010-01-25T13:46:12.594+00:002010-01-25T13:46:12.594+00:00Many thanks to you all for your kind comments. There are too many details to the job, not to mention the fact that not every person is born to be a teacher. There is an expression that I often hear others say: "Those who can't, teach." That also makes me grind my teeth. Those who can't? Those who can't what? Are you kidding me? I know the challenges of being a teacher. And I also know that those who can't raise their own kids often depend on their kids' school teachers to do the job. What a mess things already are, but what a bigger mess they would be with this six month business. It's thankless, understaffed, overworked and under regarded. It takes skill and talent to inspire children and this cannot be acquired (unless the person is very special) in months.Madame DeFargehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08172239340844485940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-37009095461454456982010-01-24T14:30:51.738+00:002010-01-24T14:30:51.738+00:00I really don't think I could handle a room of ...I really don't think I could handle a room of 30+ kids after six months' training. How could they devalue their teachers like that.

Both Angelique and Nathan are teachers and besides all their other university education the requirement to be a teacher is a 4 year arts degree and a 2 year education degree. So they take six years minimum. Angelique has another Honors in Psychology degree that was another 5 years.

And are you saying they can teach after six months.
