Bang!

You'd think that with all the supposed "progress" on women's rights, these kinds of situations would be less than they are. But it appears that humans, and men in particular, are the same as always.

On a side note, I really don't give a damn about Weiner's weiner. From what I've managed to decipher (from the constant caterwauling) is that he engaged in consenting conversations with women on social networks and he sent them a few icky pics. He didn't break any laws. He disrespected his wife but that's between him and his wife, as far as I'm concerned. It's not our business.

Don't get me wrong. I think he's a dumbass for sending pics of himself like that to anyone. But I still don't see why he should resign over it.

JaiJai Joshihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04858987106548357551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-12709055603952101192011-06-20T21:57:57.375+01:002011-06-20T21:57:57.375+01:00This comment has been removed by the author.Jai Joshihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04858987106548357551noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-76339789690098192742011-06-20T18:27:29.925+01:002011-06-20T18:27:29.925+01:00Ah, Mr. Cuban - I am crying at this. This weekend, I went to a talk by a Gay/Lesbian/TG activist from South Africa. What's happening there to women and gays is horrible. But you give me faith that men can understand - although that faith is often severely tested.

I guess this misuse of power has always existed but now, women and men of conscience are protesting. May they continue to protest and let there be positive change.

And before I forget - Happy Belated Father's Day. I'm including it below:

"You were powering through this at full speed, Cuban - and brilliantly.
Here in France, DSK's alleged behaviour has provoked a very interesting reaction, as you probably know anyway. The discussion it has opened up is, apparently, a first for the French, who have preferred to view sexual harrassment-all-the-way-to-flat-out-assault as something to be winked at. It's just part of the French male's reputation for seduction.
Like everywhere else in the world, more attention has been paid to his plight than that of the chambermaid's, although the French are very willing to publish her name and personal details.
But the point is that such a high-profile case, while awful for the lady, has been very, very good for turning over that rock to expose all the slime underneath.
Psychologist have a hey-day explaining why men do things like this, and especially why powerful men will risk their careers with bad (and worse) behaviour.
Making an example out of public figures is a good thing, but it'll take more than that. I applaud the initiative of SlutWalks, the chambermaids who have demonstrated in NYC, the women who've been on the receving end of DSK's violence and have now stepped forward - and the public discussion.

This is an excellent post, and not just because of your writing. You've said it all in a way that avoids the kind of gender-bashing that often taints these kind of commentaries. Thank you." By Deborah from the blog "The Temptation of Words".

It was only last night when I was making some changes to the text that I realised that it was Father's Day today. I never noticed the resonance of a post about rape and the annual celebration of dads and male carers. Believe me, it was totally unintended. And of course, I was laughing to myself last night, too, because I when I began to write this post, three weeks ago, Weiner was still a Congressman. Cyber-synchronicity is one of the strangest phenomena I've come across in four years as a blogger. :-)

Have a brilliant week you all. Thanks for your feedback. And Happy Father's Day! (If it applies to you, of course) :-)

Greetings from London.A Cuban In Londonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16423293358605007539noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1165773290907101242.post-19271866967954002182011-06-19T18:41:33.917+01:002011-06-19T18:41:33.917+01:00You were powering through this at full speed, Cuba...You were powering through this at full speed, Cuban - and brilliantly.
Here in France, DSK's alleged behaviour has provoked a very interesting reaction, as you probably know anyway.
